Nina Simone once dreamed of being the first African American Classical Pianist to grace Carnegie Hall. Though this isn't her first show there, it marks her first headlining performance, and while not entirely Classical, the material is undeniably substantial. As usual, she stands out, and this music defies categorization—it's far from the Soul-Jazz some might suggest on Discogs. There's a gentle, personal touch to these tracks, though they may not stir the emotions as deeply as others. I'm more partial to the tracks on "Live at The Village Gate" and "At Newport," but this is still an enjoyable listen, offering a unique twist on her live performances. Any fan of Nina's should give it a spin.
