In my opinion, this is the finest Simone release from the Acoustic Sounds Verve Series so far. Ryan K. Smith has once again delivered a pristine and uncolored mastering job. The pressing quality at QRP is excellent. I believe it's back in print as of now, so grab this as soon as you spot it—it's one of her most essential works.
This album is absolutely flawless. Every single track is executed perfectly, making it one of my favorite sounding records. Don't hesitate, if you're unsure, just go for it, or you'll miss out. It's still available at AS.
I can't imagine anyone questioning the quality of such a renowned pressing, but this remains one of the most exceptional sounding records I've ever encountered. The transition from "Strange Fruit" to "Sinnerman" is incredibly immersive, making you feel as if you're right there in the studio with the artists, and it surpasses most other records I've listened to. It's an amazing way to experience this iconic album.
Seeking a VG or above condition disc for this album. You know what I'm talking about. Hit me up if you've got a decent loose copy to sell.
Sinnerman is absolutely top-notch and way ahead of its time, we're looking at 1965 here and this song is incredibly progressive for that era. It still holds up today, the extended version was showcased at the close of the 1999 movie "The Thomas Crown Affair". A shorter version also wrapped up David Lynch's "Inland Empire". It's an ideal track to conclude with, in my opinion! "Strange Fruit" is equally amazing too.
