Johnny Cash's The American Recordings series is absolutely phenomenal! Whenever I put it on, regardless of what I'm up to, I have to pause and just immerse myself in the music. The CDs are top-notch, they play seamlessly, the audio quality is superb, and Cash's voice is simply outstanding. The energy in these recordings is infectious. The booklets are well-made and visually appealing too. My only wish is that they'd release a vinyl version, as that's what my ears truly love. I'd highly recommend this for anyone looking to enjoy some great music. Played on: Denon DCD-1550AR, Digital Coax, Technics SU-G700M2, Yamaha NS-777
Amazing album, it sounds incredible. Johnny Cash and Rick Rubin together? What a pair! There's only one Man in Black, and his voice still holds strong throughout this record. Stunning take on Desperado, with Don Henley adding backing vocals. Rest in peace, Johnny.
This album is fantastic, especially with its gatefold cover. The sound quality is excellent, and it includes many of Johnny's popular tracks. The vinyl itself is top-notch, with hardly any surface noise to speak of.
It's a tall order to expect a more fitting finale from a musician with nearly 60 years of music to his name. "Hurt" is a triumph. "Hung My Head" is a masterpiece. "Personal Jesus" is a blast. And "The Man Comes Around" is legendary. Kudos to Rick Rubin for this phenomenal album.
