Fantastic sounding and overall a very nice looking release. The first side is as good as any of the band's previous work. The other two sides are a bit more diverse, but it's still a strong record.
Guess I hit the jackpot… no disturbances or problems with my copy! I've been super pleased with all the Decemberists’ Capitol pressings
Today, I discovered that this box set features the band members' signatures, a delightful surprise upon adding it to my collection. While the description mentions "Inside cover of gatefold includes signatures of all band members," in my copy, they're actually on the back-side of the album, flanking the track listings. I ought to look into how to upload pictures. Regardless, this album sounds fantastic!
I recently caught these guys live in Buffalo, NY. The concert was fantastic! I decided to grab some merch afterwards and spotted this boxed set priced at $80, advertised as autographed by the band. Seemed reasonable, so I snatched it up along with a t-shirt. Got home, opened the box, and it was nicely put together, but the autographs were nowhere to be found. I felt totally ripped off. Anyway, the album itself is excellent, typical Decemberists quality. A bit heavier than usual, but still packed with brilliant songwriting and clever lyrics. Probably best to just get the album and skip the boxed set, though... (EDIT): the signatures are inside the sleeve!! I must say, I'm no longer feeling duped.
