Product description

Pink Floyd's fourth studio album, Ummagumma, is a groundbreaking double album that showcases the band's innovative and experimental approach to music. Released on 25 October 1969, this iconic album marked a significant milestone in Pink Floyd's career, being their first double album and their first release on Harvest Records.

The album is divided into two distinct discs, with the first featuring live recordings from their performances at Mother's Club in Birmingham and Manchester College of Commerce in April and May 1969. These live tracks, including 'Astronomy Domine' and 'Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun', demonstrate the band's exceptional musicianship and ability to recreate their complex studio arrangements in a live setting.

The second disc is a showcase of each band member's individual talents, with Roger Waters, Richard Wright, David Gilmour, and Nick Mason each contributing their own unique compositions. From the haunting beauty of 'Grantchester Meadows' to the avant-garde experimentation of 'Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict', this disc is a testament to the band's creative diversity and innovative spirit.

Ummagumma is a seminal work in the progressive rock genre, blending elements of psychedelic rock, classic rock, symphonic rock, and art rock to create a truly unique sound. With its complex compositions, poetic lyrics, and experimental approach, this album is a must-listen for fans of Pink Floyd and anyone interested in exploring the boundaries of rock music. Clocking in at 1 hour and 26 minutes, Ummagumma is a sonic journey that will leave you spellbound and eager to revisit its intricate soundscapes again and again.

This 2016 Reissue Remastered 2LP set is housed in a gatefold, pressed on 180g vinyl.

  • Experimental Phase Masterpiece

    5 out of 5 stars
    Keharer-FazJanuary 5, 2026United States🇺🇸

This album is absolutely fantastic—it's truly one of my top picks. It perfectly encapsulates that experimental phase after Syd Barrett left and before they released what I think is their groundbreaking album, Meddle. For me, this record feels like a continuation of their At Pompeii performance. It's raw, unrestrained, and has a certain edge to it. I believe they had to go through a phase of deconstruction and purging before becoming the amazing band they ultimately were. This album is a bit of a mixed bag, but I'm really into it. It's a great listen, particularly late at night with some cozy lighting.

  • Abridged but Well-Ordered 8-Track

    4 out of 5 stars
    gds320735December 17, 2025United States🇺🇸

I'm fond of the overall design of this 8-track, but it's a bit of a letdown that it's an abridged version, missing quite a few tracks from the complete album, especially most of the live ones. On the bright side, I'd prefer the live tracks to be omitted rather than the studio ones. Plus, the track order is pretty good as it doesn't cut any songs in the middle.

  • Shaped My Musical Tastes

    5 out of 5 stars
    xava_cDecember 5, 2025United States🇺🇸

This album was one of the most influential in shaping my musical preferences for many years ahead.

  • Etching Discrepancy Noted

    4 out of 5 stars
    magrammtNovember 25, 2025United States🇺🇸

The description above doesn't mention "Var 2" Side D. My version (which is spot on with Sides A, B, and C as described here) has "STBB-4-388 W1" etched in the runout groove. That "1" is just a straight line, so it might actually be a capital "i".

  • Pink Floyd's Finest Moment

    5 out of 5 stars
    Akqox_Qokloycb__November 23, 2025United States🇺🇸

I'm completely in love with this album. It's incredibly quiet when it's not playing. Pink Floyd at one of their finest moments.
