Incredible. I'm amazed at how fantastic this 1966 reissue sounds. Since the matrix IDs aren't provided, I'll need to verify if it's a repressing of the original '64. I previously owned a Rhino reissue ... there's just no contest.

This is an amazing re-release on top-notch 180g vinyl, featuring a faithful reproduction of the original cover art. It comes with a simple paper inner sleeve, but the vinyl itself is pristineโno issues here. The music is absolutely mind-blowing; Mingus pushes the boundaries of traditional jazz instrumentation, even throwing in vocal experiments like shouting and more, all while crafting stunning music. The recording engineer clearly did an incredible job, and the production is outstanding. The pressing is flawless. The sound quality is phenomenal, with each instrument crystal clear and perfectly distinguishable, fantastic dynamics, and a wide soundstage. It's almost perfect. Five stars across the board.

The music is absolutely mind-blowing, showcasing Mingus' incredible experimentation with every traditional jazz instrument, even throwing in some vocal experiments like shouting and more. Yet, he never loses sight of creating truly beautiful music. The recording engineer must have worked incredibly hard, and the production is outstanding. It's almost perfect, so I'm giving it five stars across the board.
