I'm genuinely confused if this release includes an insert or not... the copy I received came with the Spirit of Eden one, and every other copy I've seen didn't have any. Though, the credits at the end mention a photo credit, which must be referring to the photos in the insert. Also, there's a peculiar mastering issue - the whole of side B is a bit off, leaning towards the left channel...
It's tough to put into words what I think about this album without getting all mushy. I'll give it a shot. Here's one of those not-so-common cases where I like the original pressing better than the remaster. I stumbled upon a sealed copy of this version online through Discogs and, thanks to my Talk Talk OCD, snatched it up quicker than a pigeon on breadcrumbs. Back in '86, my freshman year of college, I got my hands on the first CD pressing of "The Color Of Spring," which I still have tucked away and used to swear by. I bought the 1991 CD remaster soon after it dropped and then picked up the 2014 vinyl/DVD remaster a few years back. But nothing could've prepped me for finding this original 1986 Specialty Pressing with Wally lacquer. Holy mother of God. It's like a spiritual journey for your ears, something the 1991 & 2012 remasters messed up by cranking up the sound unnaturally. This OG press is where it's at. 6/5. Go grab one.
Amazing record pressing! The vinyl is pristine and perfectly flat. The audio is dynamic, rich, and expansive. Tons of detail and clear separation. I'm absolutely loving this album all over again.
Great pressing, though I'd say the 1986 US version takes the cake. It's got more zing in the grooves, extra punch. This one's a solid backup until you snag a clean original.
In general, I'm a fan of Talk Talk's music, but this album is truly something special. The quality of the pressing is outstanding, and I've finally found the original release I've been looking for. I'm completely satisfied with it in every aspect. The record is perfectly flat, plays smoothly (there are just a few minor clicks on the B side during a quiet part, but I've only cleaned it once, and it looks visually pristine), and has no distortion. The sound quality is incredible, with the instruments sounding amazing and the bass line particularly impressive. The outer and inner packaging are both well-made. I haven't had a chance to check out the included DVD yet. I wholeheartedly recommend it. Enjoy...Setup: Technics SL-100C, Ortofon Concorde Music Bronze, Rega Fono MM MK5, Technics SU-G700M2, Yamaha NS-333/777, Vinyl Cleaner Pro-Ject VC-E
