Apart from Peace Trail, which is an awesome Neil Young track, the rest are dull, don't waste your time, just keep on with ragged glory!

Adore this quirky, unique little record. Peace Trail is an absolute NYC classic track. The album features Neil's acoustic/electric battle with Jim Keltner, full of energy and protest. Beautifully presented and incredible sound!

  • Neil Young's Political Folk Revival

    3 out of 5 stars
    vhwiinqiokoJuly 30, 2024United States🇺🇸

As the second song goes, “I can’t halt my work …” and the guy comes through once more, finally switching things up and returning to his strong foundations, making me feel like Indian Summer has been prolonged for a few extra days with Neil Young unleashing a powerful display of what I can only call a relaxed, electrified acoustic album packed with insight and critique on the social state of this fractured United States. As I listen, I'm reminded of the Jefferson Airplane scratching at the establishment's walls, and if we ever needed someone to do just that, it's now, though I'm amazed that Neil Young remains the guy committed to raising that fist. His message is pressing, even if there's a gap with his listeners, an audience that seems tired of the political talk. Sure, they'll agree, we're in a time of high tension, stress, and deceit, a country bursting at the seams with environmental crises, and leaders who'd rather mold our minds than guide us … yet every person I chat with just wants to watch their favorite TV show on their newest gadget, and share pics of their last meal, along with detailed Tweets about the person sitting beside them on the train. Peace Trail is sharp and biting, often unsettling, prioritizing the message above all, hoping that the younger crowd will see with clearer eyes, and won't be fooled, have the strength to resist the waves of hatred and hopelessness, and do what's right for the right reason. No, it's not a cozy album, it's definitely not a party album, it's meant to remind you of what's going on, that the ever-watchful government eye is observing, and that if we don't look out for each other, no one will. Peace Trail is a genuine folk record in the spirit of Woody Guthrie, but that was a long time back, and those who download this treasure and listen to it on their low-quality earbuds won't appreciate it, or even start to grasp its message, moving the songs to the least liked section, and eventually erasing them … and that's the problem, if you don't catch the message, pay attention to the words, and answer the call, then we're destined to be nothing but plain bread, lying there in the sun to be pecked at by passing birds. Yep, “Purple Haze” has become a shopping mall background tune … but I remember when, so I'll keep feeding my mind, raising my fist, and kick at the walls with Neil Young by my side.
