  • Outstanding Live Recording

    4 out of 5 stars
    dicicasjeNovember 11, 2025United States🇺🇸

I reckon it's outstanding. The mix is superb. It's live, bursting with feeling. I'd say the recording is fantastic for what it is. Sure, there were some audio hiccups. Live audio hiccups, mind you. The record's smooth with hardly any hiss. What more is there to say?

  • Cheap but flawed vinyl

    3 out of 5 stars
    bbc75July 25, 2025United States🇺🇸

The audio and pressing aren't top-notch, but I snagged it for a mere $10, so I won't gripe. That said, the vinyl didn't appear pristine. There's a bit of discoloration or two on one side, plus plenty of brushstroke-like marks. The LPs were filthy when I pulled them from their sleeves.

  • Original Jazz Live Vibes

    5 out of 5 stars
    Jyifwkiirho70July 5, 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

I've got a different take on this one. For me, it's all about getting the original vibe. This isn't a pristine digital soundboard rip of the performance. But hey, it's still super clear and a joy to listen to. Plus, it's way better than that vinyl release from a decade ago. So, in my book, this is the top-tier version of these classic live jazz tracks.

  • Disappointing Sound Quality

    2 out of 5 stars
    ssis6xvazMarch 15, 2025United States🇺🇸

I was thrilled when this showed up on VMP, but I must admit, the sound quality is a bit disappointing. It comes across as quite muffled and low to me. I'd be interested to hear what others think. I wish they'd mention if the sound quality isn't up to par when these are released.

  • Live Vinyl Experience

    4 out of 5 stars
    Lavg_YigwNovember 22, 2024United States🇺🇸

I really enjoy this vinyl, it's one of a kind and to me it's like being there live, so you catch the great moments as well as the not so great ones but it's all very clear

About Thelonious Monk

Thelonious Monk, born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, was a pioneering American jazz pianist and composer, renowned for his distinctive improvisational style and significant contributions to the jazz canon. As one of the founders of modern jazz, Monk's unique approach to rhythm, space, and harmony set him apart, making him the second-most-recorded jazz composer after Duke Ellington. His compositions, such as "'Round Midnight", "Blue Monk", and "Straight, No Chaser", are staples of the genre. Monk's deliberately quirky playing, which often challenges conventional notions of rhythm and harmony, might take some time to appreciate, but his brilliance as a composer and pianist is undeniable. Growing up in New York, Monk began playing piano at the age of five and honed his craft throughout his career, leaving an indelible mark on jazz history.
