Great album and excellent mastering, but the pressing is truly awful. The first copy I purchased was littered with partially melted bits of plastic fiber. The replacement was a tad better but still severely warped and had a few grey spots that produce a hissing noise when the stylus passes over them. On top of that, the gatefold is falling to pieces, likely due to dried-out glue. Don't they have any quality control in place? Overall, a bit let down by the pressing, but still 5 stars for the fantastic music and superb remaster.
My vinyl copy sounds fantastic too! I'm still thrilled to finally have it on vinyl after waiting 25 yearsβthat's a long time!
The re-issue's quality has definitely impacted the resale value of this one. I'd never part with my original copy, but it was quite a thrill to witness its price surge before the new version hit the market. If only the other recent pressing matched up. Regardless, I'm continually amazed by this album, whether it's the new or old edition. It remains my all-time favorite PJ album, then and now.
I recall stumbling upon a quote from Eddie, along the lines of, βrock and roll's meant to be blasted loudβ β and he nailed it. Little did he realize that this would involve turning up this vinyl record, which is FRIGGIN' barely audible. Making matters worse is ANOTHER PJ vinyl release filled with crackles. Do they care? Do they even listen? Apart from the 45 VS, (which is phenomenal), this is just another letdown. Yeah, PJ, we're spinning the black disc β and yeah, you're letting us down.
Owned the first version, then sold it to grab the reissues (this one and yield) along with his ukulele record. Pretty much identical, save for the album art which is a tad different. The audio quality is spot on, can't detect any distinction at all on my copy.
