The audio quality is fantastic. There's a bit of hiss, but it's not that noticeable.
October 2019. It's quite evident that this album wasn't crafted for someone like me, who grew up loving the early days of Blink-182. They've made it clear it's aimed at a more contemporary audience. I did enjoy 'California' for its quick, lively tracks and humor. This new album, however, feels more like a return to their self-titled album, which happens to be one of my least favorite from them. On my first listen, I found myself skipping tracks. The pop production and heavy use of electronics didn't resonate with me much, similar to my experience with Foo Fighters' last album. The vocals are overly auto-tuned. Even the songwriting seems influenced by pop and hip-hop artists, which is quite noticeable. (Just look at the long list of contributors and producers. It's overwhelming. Somewhere in all this, the essence of Blink-182 seems lost). Some tracks are decent pop songs, but I couldn't wait to get to the 50-second 'Generational Divide'. When they released this single before the album, it raised my hopes. Other releases didn't quite do the same, though 'Darkside' did grow on me. There are a few heavier sounds in the second half. 'Pin the Grenade' has a catchy chorus. 'No Heart to Speak Of' also has a soaring chorus, but the verses get lost in electronic effects. 'Ransom' ends well. Even the slow 'Remember to Forget Me' starts off reminiscent of 'Stay Together for the Kids' but then electronic beats kick in halfway through… I would have liked to hear the songs they originally wrote before they decided to start over with contributing writers. I know some of these tracks will grow on me, but it feels like the punk spirit they once had is gone here. It's not a bad album, it's just not what I was hoping for from them. 3 out of 5.
This record sounds fantastic! The audio dynamics are top-notch and the vinyl is incredibly quiet. So happy I bought it.
Ordered the neon version from target online, but they shipped me the black one instead. Pretty upset about it, but they let me keep it and gave me my money back.
Blink's finest album to date & awesome listen!
