I'm not entirely sure how to score this one... it's definitely good, but I'm not convinced it reached its peak, some mid-range frequencies kinda feel muddy, everything else I'd say I really enjoy. I guess I'll just give it the 5 stars Kevin Gray usually deserves.
In general, this version sounds quite pleasant, though the drums tend to get a bit lost behind the vocals. The gatefold is absolutely fantastic.
Quite a bit of surface noise here, it does get better as the album progresses but as a blink fan, I really wanted this album to be as clear as possible. It's already a messy mix from the studio, packed with more effects than an Avengers flick. The drums on the CD sound distant, and the whole album has this industrial vibe, which is odd for a punk rock record. It's like it's all coming through a P.A. system. The only things that really stand out are Tom's loud, crescendo-like singing and the occasional guitar part, usually during the bridge. This album is great, it just might need that digital touch to sound as intended. Also, it's big and you've gotta open it all the way up to get to the first of the two LPs. On the bright side, it comes with antistatic plastic inner sleeves and the artwork looks much better like this. Great album, but it probably won't see much playtime.
