I was really anxious when I placed my order, thinking I might end up with the 2023 reissue. Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind you. But I got lucky and received this version instead, and I couldn't be happier! It sounds amazing and is truly a masterpiece from the legendary Premier on the wheels of steel and Guru on the mic. 🙌
This is the 2023 repressing of the 2015 reprint. My copy sounds fantastic. No ticks, cracks or flaws.
Among my all-time top hip hop albums. Likely the greatest album from '98...
While some folks might argue that Mos Def is the voice of hip hop, for me, it's all about Gang Starr, and this album is the one that stands out. It's the epitome of hip hop, from the very first track to the last. You've got one of the finest producers and DJs ever, paired with Guru's unmistakable "king of monotone" flow, and both of them are at their absolute best. I'd easily rank Above the Clouds and Moment of Truth in my top 20 hip hop tracks, and these are just a taste of what this fantastic album has to offer.
Mine's been fine, just the records were super snug in the paper sleeve, but apart from that, no hissing or crackles.
