Has anyone got this press? Would love to hear thoughts on its quality and how it sounds. Thanks a bunch!
To start with, this is a pretty good vinyl pressing for a 90's hip-hop record; I'd reckon it's noticeably better than what you'd typically find. Moreover, the music is absolutely breathtaking. I've always had a soft spot for 'Step In The Arena', but giving this a spin again today, I'd argue this one edges it out slightly with its jazzier samples and whatnot. Guru shines here, seamlessly blending social commentary and boastful lyrics with finesse. He was always up there with my favorite rappers, alongside a few others who didn't get the recognition they deserved (or at least, not back then) like Ice-T, Q-Tip, MC Eiht. Not too sure about 'Conspiracy', but I'll overlook that one! 5/5 for the album, 4/5 for the pressing (considering it's from the 90's).
After finally getting to listen to both discs, I didn't come across any issues or inconsistencies with my copy. In terms of volume, I matched it up with the 2014 lenticular cover version and it was pretty much the same. Honestly, no complaints from me.
Quite an uncommon drop and honestly not worth the price tag, which sits around $100 - 150. The bonus track is exclusive to this edition, featuring the extended 12" version (only 10 seconds, but still) with horns from the "Horny Instrumental" during the chorus and some echo effects on the vocals at different spots than the original. It's more for the collectors out there, but it's a classic with the b-side that didn't make it onto the original LP as a bonus. Dwyck really fits well on here.
Audio Quality is fantastic. This vinyl has way less surface noise (like pops and crackles) than my white vinyl copies of Hard to Earn & Step in the Arena
