Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.
I'd hoped the other reviews were too harsh or inaccurate, as I impulsively bought this from a store without checking the pressing details first... sadly, after just spinning Eminence Front, I can say this isn't a good pressing. It sounds as dull as others have said.
The timing problem on 'Eminence Front' is a real letdown, it's so off-putting. The mix is awful too, the bass is totally out of sync with the rest of the instruments and it's not mixed properly for stereo whatsoever. One of the poorest mixes I've come across on an album. The sound quality of the pressing is alright, a bit too quiet but clean overall. But nothing gels together right on this album, unlike the CD or digital versions. Just not a good pressing at all.
My Top Track Picks : - Eminence Front - Athena
Apart from the songs themselves, the audio quality is just okay. Interestingly, the clearest track is "Eminence Front," which has fantastic dynamics and sounds beautiful. This makes me suspect that the murky sound of the rest of the album might be due to poor production on those tracks. In any case, it's not the worst, but it's certainly not the best either.
I'm at a loss as to why this album wasn't titled βItβs Your Turnβ (considering the artwork), but that's a mystery for another day. Despite the endless complaints from critics about how supposedly terrible this album is, I've always been a fan. "One Life's Enough" is the sole track that's never quite clicked with me, but "Athena," "Dangerous," and "Cry If You Want" are among my all-time favorite Who songs. Oh, and has anyone else picked up on the similarity between "Cry If You Want" and Townshend's "Communication"?
