Pictures Of A City (Islands Band Practice)" and "Islands (Snippet: Robert Fripp Mention Cassette - Mellotron On Vibes Mode)" appear to be exclusive to this fantastic and budget-friendly 2 disc collection, at least I can't locate them on the Sailors Tales Mega Box. The disorganized rehearsal has an endearing, rough-around-the-edges appeal, it's not a deal-breaker to be without it but if I'd known it wasn't in the mega box I might've kept hold of this set. As a very loose guideline, if the 2 disc sets were released years before the box sets they likely have some unique content/masterings, so be cautious before you get rid of them like: Red, Islands etc. If they came out at the same time as a box set they're probably identical to one of the discs in the relevant megabox ie: Earthbound, The Power to Believe, Thrak, Larks tongues in Aspic, The ReKconstruction of Light etc.
Certainly not your usual KC record. Quite distinct from their other works.
This pressing is unmatched. It's worth every penny. Highly recommended.
Calling any King Crimson record "strange" might seem unnecessary, yet this particular album stands out even among their diverse discography. The sound quality on this pressing is astonishingly dynamic; you can practically witness the dramatic shifts in volume etched into the vinyl grooves. The tracks oscillate between intriguing, soft folk-like passages and intense, full-blown jazz-rock explosions. It's a truly captivating experience to listen to this one on vinyl.
This mix is absolutely wild. It swings from super quiet to crazy loud, even more so than other KC mixes. Yet, it's incredibly immersive and that range makes every sound stand out from the rest. Awesome pressing.
