The audio quality is improved, sounding more natural and less squashed than the original CD. This is the most significant upgrade I've noticed in any of the remastered versions.
The vinyl I have is quite loud. Side A is the absolute worst! It improved a bit after I gave it a thorough clean, but it's still not great. The mastering, though, is top-notch. At least it came with a CD. Fingers crossed for a UK pressing someday. My copy has TML-S on Disc 1 (both sides) and TML-M on Disc 2 (both sides).
The record kicks off with some clicks on Side A, then it suddenly goes dead silent (around the 20-second mark) - Truly amazing pressing.
I genuinely hoped this album would be a masterpiece, but even after 14 years, I can't quite get there. I just can't. The gloomy and somber atmosphere of the music is overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time. It doesn't diminish her status as one of the greatest musicians and vocalists ever, but it does reveal that she's aged, as she doesn't even attempt to engage with her vocals. She mumbles and softly moans her lyrics, which might work for one track but not for an entire hour. Her legacy was built on musical skill and boldness. This is her with a piano (and probably a bottle of scotch) mumbling numbers between one and fifty while another word for snow is repeated. Clever - not really. It certainly helps with insomnia, as I often drift off while listening to it. I hope that wasn't her intention. I will always admire, respect, and cherish her first seven albums, while I tuck away Aerial, Director's Cut, and 50 Words For Snow as mere shadows of her former self.
