Certainly, the music on Herbert Grönemeyer's second album wasn't quite fully developed yet. However, the lyrics already showed genuine depth. In the first track, "Stau," one could almost sing along to the chorus "Still ruht der Stau" with a well-known Christmas carol, but nobody can say "I love you" as beautifully as Grönemeyer. The title "Commander" was only known to me from the film "Superstau" with Jan Fedder, and I didn't know it referred to a car model. This makes it clear that the artist is likely a car enthusiast, as he later dedicates a song to his Kadett as well. When friends change so much that you barely recognise them, they are probably like "Bruno." The song "Ich bin wieder soweit" is written from the perspective of a relapsed anti-alcoholic. "Kairo" tells a tragic family story. The line "Besser Du gehst jetzt" should be said to the girlfriend of your best friend, if things ever get serious. The musician also reports on his first romantic experiences, which were with a prostitute named "Helga." As mentioned at the beginning, Herbert Grönemeyer's musical work here is still a work in progress, but the sometimes very personal lyrics are already fully mature.
