Years Of Refusal witnesses Morrissey's return to clarify matters once more, this time paying homage to Paris with what might be one of the most enchanting city love songs I've encountered. Paris, take a bow! Overall, Years Of Refusal leans into a more rock ‘n’ roll vibe, evoking memories of “Your Arsenal” from 1992. If you're after Morrissey's indie pop side, look to “Ringleader” or his earlier work. Here, the band is clearly having a blast, showcasing their live energy. An attitude I can certainly appreciate. All You Need Is Me stands out as a prime example – and it's already featured on the 2008 Greatest Hits compilation. Now, where's the tacky badge? Tsk tsk! But this is Morrissey in 2009. Bold, brash, and utterly self-confident. How he continues to get away with it is almost beyond comprehension. But thank you! The question remains, for how long? Morrissey himself hints that “One Day Goodbye Will Be Farewell”. Well, let's not rush to any conclusions.
