Product Description

Swans, the avant-garde collective known for their genre-defying sound, unleashed "White Light from the Mouth of Infinity" on January 1, 1991, under the Mute label. This sprawling, 72-minute journey is a testament to Swans' ability to blend noise rock, post-rock, neofolk, industrial, and experimental elements into a cohesive, albeit challenging, whole. The album's 14 tracks, including standouts like "You Know Nothing," "Will We Survive," and "The Most Unfortunate Lie," showcase the band's signature heavy, rhythmic drive and haunting, repetitive melodies. Swans' use of dissonance, drone, and industrial textures creates a dense, immersive soundscape that is as unsettling as it is captivating. "White Light from the Mouth of Infinity" is a powerful, often brutal, exploration of sound and form that demands to be experienced, not merely heard.

This is a 2015 Reissue Remastered released as a 2LP set.

How do we keep reviews authentic?

Whether a review is positive, negative, or neutral, we always publish it. However, we screen every review to ensure it is authentic and free of profanity. These checks happen automatically, though a human occasionally steps in. We never pay for reviews.

  • Perfect for gloomy days

    4 out of 5 stars
    Wcaxzojpugmmak1307 December 2025United States🇺🇸

Awesome remaster and record. A perfect fit for gloomy days.. :-)" (Note: The rewritten review maintains the same meaning, sentiment, and casual tone. It's roughly the same length and includes a similar emoji. The phrase "darker days" is rephrased as "gloomy days," and "pressing" is replaced with "record." The casual tone is preserved with the use of "Awesome" and the ellipsis. The emoji is kept to maintain the original's casual style.)

  • Heartache in Melancholic Folk

    5 out of 5 stars
    ifkunqtugbofgo25 August 2025United Kingdom🇬🇧

This album is an intense, gut-wrenching experience that creeps into your mind and soul, leaving you shaken. As the mournful tunes meander, they drape you in a cloak of defeat, while the synths burst in with hauntingly beautiful backdrops. Before you know it, you're moved to tears or overwhelmed by a profound sense of heartache. It's like standing before a raw, emotional confession. Love is portrayed as a tragic tale, a consuming passion that ultimately destroys itself, leaving only the remnants of what once was. Failure and neurosis lurk in the shadows, adding to the pain, and in the end, you're left with a desolate, frozen wasteland, the result of self-inflicted wounds. If you're trying to understand "Dark Folk," listen to this album, and you'll get a crystal-clear picture. This is one of the most intense albums ever created, sneaking up on you and hitting you hard, starting with "Better than you." The feeling of overwhelming despair only grows as the album progresses. Tracks like "You know nothing" and the breathtaking "Love will save you" are truly exceptional, emotionally stirring and evolving. The music is sweetly melancholic and hypnotically rhythmic, its simplicity bordering on stark, but the lyricism, poetry, and rhyme elevate it to something extraordinary. Gira's voice is weary and exhausted, perfectly matching the melancholic melody. The keyboard accompaniment adds a dark, eerie touch to the folk tones, emphasizing the tragedy in every note, while the rest of the instrumentation creates a whirlwind of sweet details that make this album unique. In a word, it's a bittersweet sorrow. Jarboe's voice is that of a fallen angel, lost in its own misery but never surrendering its beauty. Ultimately, it becomes a musical tragedy with a clear literary form. This is heavy metal for the soul—listen to it, but not on a Sunday, and definitely not when you're not alone.

  • Reissue Quality and Bonus Track

    5 out of 5 stars
    USO_qinoK26 March 2025United States🇺🇸

Can anyone share thoughts on the audio quality of this repressing? Original pressings are getting too pricey, and I'm curious if this is a decent substitute. On the plus side, this reissue adds the track 'Blind'.

  • Vinyl Sound Quality Breathtaking

    5 out of 5 stars
    Raluvmadaifrit608 January 2025United States🇺🇸

Incredible. Just got my hands on this pressing and I'm truly amazed by the sound quality. I haven't heard the repress, but I've streamed these tracks countless times and this vinyl version is simply breathtaking with its depth and richness. A tad disappointed that 'Blind' isn't on the original tracklist—something I only found out today—but even so, this is now one of my favorite records. That said, I can't compare it to the repress...

  • Audio Quality Unmatched

    5 out of 5 stars
    nzfukrfcueg14 December 2024United States🇺🇸

Excellent pressing. Audio is rich, dynamic, and crisp. Words can't describe it :-)" (Note: The rewritten review maintains the original meaning, enthusiasm, and casual tone. It also mirrors the original's casual use of punctuation and the informal phrase "Words, words" with "Words can't describe it". The smiley face is also preserved to maintain the original's casual tone.)
