Incredible, just incredible - this record has STUNNING sound quality for its "humble price". It's pressed on 180g flat black virgin vinyl with just a touch of that classic "tape hiss" from the analog recording. The music, as many know, is superb with sharp & accurate playing, fantastic wide stereo imaging & tons of texture & atmosphere, particularly from the double bass, you can even hear the strings rebounding off the frets. P.S. This rivals most of my Blue Note classics & Tone Poets series, absolutely fantastic value! Music 5* Mastering/pressing 5* Sound quality 5* Outer & inner sleeves: outer is standard card, inner is poly lined 4* Vinyl front-end: Turntable: Rega P3 Cartridge: Denon DL103r Phono Stage: Whest Audio TWO.
Given that the Terre Haute mono pressings feature a T in the matrix and a 3 on the right lower side, I'd guess that the backwards 3 stereo version aligns with the matrix run out that includes the T as well. Seems logical to organize stereo/mono and pick the right sleeve...just a theory from one person.
This copy is absolutely perfect, from start to finish. There's not a single flaw to be seen or heard. The disc is perfectly centered and lays completely flat. And just like everyone else has mentioned, the sound quality is out of this world. I'd have no problem shelling out double the price for this if it came from a well-known audiophile brand. The bang for your buck here is truly unbeatable.
Absolutely fantastic release. My copy is pristine and sounds crisp, open, and full of life. I reckon it's one of the best vinyls in my collection. Not a hint of surface noise or crackle. If you don't have any version of this album yet, I'd highly suggest grabbing this one.
I finally got around to playing this today and it was well worth the wait. The entire package meets the usual high standards set by AP. I don't own any other versions of this release to make a comparison, but I've found this one to be quite enjoyable on its own.
