Wow, this pressing sounds absolutely fantastic. It's so quiet and mastered to perfection. It's easily one of the best sounding albums in my collection, especially how it completely outshines the digital version. The production and mixing, done by Danger Mouse and Nigel Godrich, really make a difference. What an amazing team!
Over the past year, I've been gathering both vintage and new vinyl records. Out of all of them, this one sounds the best. I'm using old-school gear to play it: a Marantz 2238, Technics SL23 turntable, and Tangent tM1 speakers. The stylus I'm using is an Ortofon OM Pro. The mastering on this record is the best I've heard so far.
Awesome album! Absolutely adore how it flows! Honestly, it just keeps getting better with each listen, hard to believe I know ;)
Absolutely adore the album and the pressing is spotless, but I'm a tad let down by the sound quality. The bass is powerful and the mids to highs are beautiful, but it seems like there's a slight cover over the entire track, almost like it's been over-compressed. Haven't experienced this with other records, same setup.
Audio quality is fantastic. Barely any noise during pauses - minimal surface noise at best. I didn't even clean it, just gave it a quick brush. The mastering is a bit reserved but sounds nice, not overly loud at all. It's a bit bass-heavy for my preference, but it doesn't sound boomy or muddy. Overall, I'm really satisfied. Listening to this again today 2020/12/08 - still agree with my comments from 4 years ago. Great sound - bass is very thick; I had to turn it down to increase the volume or it's just too much (some people will love that) ... I wish there was a bit more crunch/clarity to the sound but as far as modern pressings go there's not much to genuinely complain about here at all. Excellent representation of this album.
