Pretty bland album. Nothing really here to get excited about.
This album is one of those ultimate mellow groovers, only three songs, but each ranges between ten and fifteen minutes. Turrentine, Hubbard and Benson get plenty of solo space, and Butch Cornell's organ fills greatly enhance the late night vibe. SUGAR also feels more like a Blue Note session than most CTI releases. This pressing has the VAN GELDER stamp, and it's yet another gorgeously warm and full sounding record. My copy is in excellent shape, with no noticeable surface noise.

The album is one of Turrentine's best-received and was greeted with universal acclaim on release and on subsequent reissues. Hailed by many as Turrentine’s greatest post Blue Note album. And the players: Stanley Turrentine, Freddie Hubbard, Lonnie Liston Smith, Butch Cornell, George Benson, Ron Carter… one of my favorites.
