Wow, this is an amazing TP pressing on 180g wrap & noise-free black vinyl! If you're looking to experience hard bop at its absolute best, you've found it right here – it's all here in all its glory, including the work of Rudy Van Gelder. This is a must-have! Thanks for checking it out - highly recommended. Last week, I purchased a vinyl copy of Nina Simone’s Live at Town Hall, released by 4 Men With Beards. Growing up, my mum and I would often listen to this album together, so I was really looking forward to revisiting those memories. Unfortunately, my nostalgia trip was cut short. The quality of the pressing was absolutely terrible. There was so much background noise, like you'd hear on a well-loved dance floor classic, and the right channel had some awful distortion. It was just dreadful. So, I returned to Amoeba for a store credit. As I entered the Jazz section, I spotted this album on display and picked it up. A guy standing nearby remarked, “that’s the best pressed record I’ve heard in a while.” Naturally, I bought it. And let me tell you, he wasn’t exaggerating. This pressing is fantastic. The surface noise is minimal, and the sound is dynamic with a captivating depth. It’s truly enchanting. Now, I just need to track down a copy of Town Hall that matches this quality.
This might just be my all-time favorite Tone Poet drop. I'm absolutely loving it. Honestly, I don't think I need to say much more about Tone Poet releases until I come across one that's not up to par. The way things are going, that might never happen. Grade: A
This is a brilliant late-night album to enjoy with your preferred drink. Curious about how it performs on a high-quality Hi-Fi setup? Just like other CD reissues, Van Gelder's audio quality will surely impress with its clarity, dynamic range, and balanced instrumentation.
Breathtaking. I'd love to just stop at that word and call it a day, but Discogs won't let me. This is an incredible pressing, bursting with vitality and punch in the bass and midrange, and those cymbals - you can practically see their size! Mind-blowing.
