It's not a top-tier production, but it outshines many records in my collection. Having never owned this on vinyl before, I've got nothing else to compare it to except for streaming. I'm happy it's gatefold, but the orientation really bugs me. I'd take off half a star if I could, but since that's not an option, I'll just round up. Donald Byrd is an incredible trumpeter, and the band perfectly complements his skill on this album. The compositions are absolutely exquisite. It's a soulful, funk-infused jazz experience, and in parts, it's some of the best I've ever heard. I've played this for friends at gatherings, and they've been just as amazed. Though, I've also had friends who weren't impressed at all. Those friends are mistaken; this is a phenomenal-sounding record, truly cool and funky. Fantastic stuff.
