Great work, Third Man/BN! It's spotless, though I usually give new records a wet-clean anyway. The pressing is flat with minimal noise, apart from a few pops at the start of side 1 that might disappear after a few spins or another wet-clean. The mix is fantastic, with excellent dynamics, instrument separation, depth, and imaging. The songs and overall vibe are ethereal, dreamy, and otherworldly. It's like a spiritual journey Byrd is guiding you through. I'm curious about what they were experiencing ;)
Amazing! I'm truly impressed by the incredible sound quality. It's so dynamic with an expansive soundstage. I'm also pleasantly surprised that Third Man Records managed to release a pressing that's perfectly flat and free of noise - their quality control usually leaves much to be desired. I'd definitely recommend this!
This is an amazing recording, Wally really outdid himself. It sounds incredibly lifelike with outstanding dynamics. The vinyl is silent and perfectly pressed, worth .5 stars. The only thing that could be improved is the jacket.
Fortunate that my copy turned up in great condition. Much like my Thad Jones purchase, you could probably cut apples with the sharpness of this disc's edge. The sound quality is fantastic: I'm really into how they experimented with reverb in the studio during the initial mastering of this album. This reissue has a strong low-end, but the reverbed trumpet still shines through beautifully. There's no surface noise until the final track on side B ("The Dude"), but I should give the record a clean and see if that improves things. I just did that, and it helped, but there are still some surface quality issues (I'm guessing not from the original tapes, though). All in all, I'm really happy with this one. Too bad it's already sold out. I reckon the other versions sound just as good, though....
Fantastic LP, featuring three tracks I hadn't heard before (though I already have 'The Dude'), which might just be the best ones. The sound quality is truly impressive, with no major issues to report. It offers great stereo separation, a wide soundstage, 3D depth, and excellent dynamics. My disc is perfectly flat, warp-free, and noise-free, and it even came with an anti-static inner sleeve.
