The main issue preventing a re-release is the ongoing feud between De La and Tommy Boy, which has been going on for at least a decade. From what we last heard, Tommy Boy wanted to divide royalties with the band in a 90/10 split. The deal fell apart, and now Tommy Boy owns the rights to the band's first six albums. Try searching for it on any digital platform, and you won't find it. So, only physical copies are available. It's pretty unique because what isn't on Apple Music these days? Listening to this on vinyl is quite alright. It's not amazing, but the bass is good. But man, they cut out so many skits, even the short ones, and if you've listened to this as it was originally intended, it's a bit odd not to hear them between the songs. Just silence and then the next song. The music is definitely packed together, my record is in great condition, no flaws, and still there's some surface noise between the songs. The biggest issue is they removed the intro! Which is one of De La's hardest and most enjoyable beats. They could've taken off "Baby, Baby" or even "Dog Eat Dog," two weaker tracks, and kept the intro.

I'm happy to report that they've done a fantastic job with my beloved De La Soul album. No hissing or skipping, and the pacing is spot on throughout both records. Might be a tad dusty when you take it out of the sleeve, but a quick brush should sort that right out.
This promo comes in a few different versions, each with a unique take on the "Stakes is High" track. The simplest way to tell them apart is by looking at the label. On this one, you'll find "de la soul" written at the top of the label in black outline, with no color fill, on a white background. Just below that, "Stake is High" is printed in solid black, slightly above the center. The jacket is plain black, with no artwork or text on it.
