This is a fantastic pressing, absolutely flawless with not a single pop or click to be heard, which is crucial for music like this (it's not exactly heavy metal or techno, after all). The audio quality is superb, and I genuinely can't imagine Leonard Cohen's masterpiece sounding any better than this. [I'm using an Ortofon 2M Black cartridge to play it.]
I'm absolutely in love with this album! The sound quality is gorgeous, and Leonard's voice is so clear, it feels like he's right there in the room with you!
Prior to this album, Leonard Cohen was mostly recognized as a poet and author. It seems he aspired to be a renowned country songwriter but fell for the folk scene before he could head to Nashville. So, while he initially made a name for himself as a writer, it's quite a tale when you consider that Cohen is widely regarded as one of the unique and most captivating songwriters to emerge from the 1960s. With each subsequent album, I found myself increasingly enamored not just with his lyrics, but also his songwriting, which is often remarkable. Over time, I lost touch with him when he entered the 1980s, adopting a gravelly voice and polished, stiff production, which suited his image then and kept him very popular. But for me, the 1960s and early '70s represent the best of Cohen. On this debut album, you'll find a lot of great tracks: "Suzanne" and "So Long, Marianne" being the two highlights. He clashed with the producer, not achieving the stripped-down sound he was after. By his next album, I believe he struck a perfect balance between what he wanted to convey and how he wanted to convey it.
Can anyone tell me when this came out? Cheers
The sound quality of this pressing is absolutely fantastic! It's incredibly clean throughout, with zero pops, clicks, or any surface noise. Every detail is crisp and full of energy.
