I stumbled upon this gem during a random mega sale at a not-so-famous online record shop. I was genuinely thrilled by its audio quality. While I don't own any originals or other pressings to compare, it's been one of my top record spins since I started collecting and listening. My copy sounded incredibly clean, despite however long this retailer had it sitting on their shelves since it came out.
My unit arrived in perfect condition. The sound quality is decent, with good separation and clarity, but the high end isn't impressive. It seems like there's an artificial boost around 10Khz (not overly bright), but it still feels like something's missing in the presence department. It's not very dynamic either. It's alright, but nothing to write home about.
Compared to the 2018 Bellman/Grundman remaster, which is pretty good, I believe this version is a definite step up in dynamics and soundstage. There's an added layer here; more depth and clarity to the vocals—particularly the lead vocals—and better overall separation between the instruments. No matter how this One Step was produced, whether DSD, analog, or anything else, it sounds amazing. Anyone who says this release lacks dynamics either has an issue with their ears or a problem with their system.
Pretty decent album; not a massive Eagles enthusiast but it was complimentary. Audio quality mostly good but cover in bad shape.
Trust me, go for a clean OG and you'll be way happier, plus you'll save a ton of cash. I did a side-by-side test, the OG was way more lively.
