Great pressing, very clean and quiet. Sound quality is a 4 out of 5. The performance is top-notch, a 5 for sure.
Upon unboxing, mine required a thorough cleaning, but it's a solid pressing. It's not flawless, but it's definitely superior to many recent releases. As a listening experience, it's a fantastic double LP that you can play, relax with the artwork, and truly appreciate. The album has hardly any, if any at all, weak tracks. Sure, it's all digital on the record, but who's complaining when it sounds this great?
Incredible, flawless vinyl pressing! It sounds just as it ought to on vinyl. It's like having them right there in the room with you. You can't get that same experience with a CD because of the compression. I'm a huge fan of this album too. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea and some folks don't like it, but I genuinely enjoy it. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's better than their earlier albums. But I appreciate it for what it is. So many nostalgic memories of listening to this in the car back when I was a kid. Side C and D is my absolute favorite part of the whole album!
As an Eagles fan, it's no surprise that I've often felt like I've been championing this band all by myself... and now that an era is ending, it's time for me to pass the torch. I'll never forget when The Eagles' music was a delightful mix of rock and country, influenced by the likes of Gram Parsons, Poco, and the Flying Burrito Brothers. Their sound was a refreshing taste of Southern California, easy to listen to and a whole lot of fun. But on "Long Road Out Of Eden," the songs have taken a turn, becoming overly sweet, like cotton candy flavored with Cracker Jacks. It's as if I'm trying to keep warm on a chilly summer night, strolling along the boardwalk. The neon lights may look inviting, and kids might be screaming on the Tilt-A-Whirl, but no one seems to be having any real fun. Out of the twenty tracks on this album, only four are worth your time: "Guilty Of The Crime," a truly magnificent number sung by Joe Walsh, "Somebody," which is as tightly crafted and played as you'll ever hear, with lyrics that flow like dice tumbling to win. Then there's "Busy Being Fabulous," with its unique sound and dynamic vision that could have shaped the future of The Eagles, but unfortunately, it didn't. Lastly, there's "How Long," which is simply pure Eagles, everything you could want, and what the band has always done at their best. What really bothered me, though, was the lack of authenticity from The Eagles and their stance on big businesses destroying small towns and communities. This album was exclusively released through Wal-Mart and Sam's Club, which makes me think the corporations must have offered them a sweet deal to keep other retailers from selling it. This is a band that once represented so much of the American music scene, and now they seem to be part of the same system they once fought against, pushing out small stores in favor of the biggest corporations around. I'd love to tell you to avoid this album on principle alone, but the four songs I mentioned are so good that I wouldn't want you to miss out. Save some money and just get those four tracks, or buy this collection second-hand. Let me tell you, anyone who thinks this is a great Eagles album has never truly heard The Eagles before.
Uncertain if it's a fresh pressing or merely re-packaged, but I grabbed the new Walmart version with Replica Tour Laminate. It's flawless on all sides. Super clean straight from the sleeve, and the vinyl is really quiet and dynamic overall. You couldn't find a better pressing. $36.97 Don Henley appears to handle most of the lead vocals, with Glenn not far behind.
