I picked up this version as well, and the guy at the record shop mentioned it's a bootleg. The music sounds fantastic, but there's no lyrics or info booklet included. Does the original release come with the lyrics?
It's a real letdown that Mute forgot to put in the four-page lyric insert. Yet another chance they blew.
Great sound, amazing appearance. The packaging could use some improvement, sure - but I'm really enjoying it overall.
To start off, the sound quality on this release is absolutely fantastic. Sure, I don't have another version to compare it to, but I've been enjoying this incredible album since it first came out. The way the tracks are ordered caught me off guard, it makes sense for fitting it onto three sides, but...
Here's the rewritten review according to your guidelines: "This marks the initial UK release of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds’ renowned 1996 opus, Murder Ballads. Dropped during the band’s creative zenith, the album is a fierce yet darkly amusing gothic journey, fixated on love, mortality, and storytelling in its rawest form. The vinyl comes in its authentic sleeve, complete with the large-folded 4-page “Murder Ballads Bulletin” insert, showcasing full lyrics, credits, artwork, and catalog shots of other Bad Seeds' works. All the runout etchings are hand-carved, confirming its status as a genuine first pressing.Musically, this is Cave at his most dramatic and unyielding. Ranging from the expansive “Stagger Lee” to the eerie duet with Kylie Minogue on “Where the Wild Roses Grow,” the album masterfully blends threat with elegance, securing its place as one of Cave’s most iconic works. The sound quality here is unfiltered and engrossing, with Cave’s deep voice piercing through the thick layers of strings, piano, and heavy beats. It encapsulates every detail of the Bad Seeds’ powerful performances — from hushed whispers to explosive climaxes.A genuine collector’s treasure and a must-listen, this first UK pressing of Murder Ballads captures the disquieting brilliance of Nick Cave at his peak.
