Just like with many Beatles albums originally recorded in mono, it's tricky to appreciate the stereo versions when you're used to the original mono versions. EMI's engineers had to remove effects (especially from Rubber Soul onwards) or the natural sound of instruments to create a left/right separation... so this album ends up sounding like a nice copy, but without its soul.
