Side A had a few pops in the quieter sections, but Side B was filled with a constant pop/crackle noise in the background. I could even hear them during the louder parts of “Lover I Don’t Have to Love”. This was after I cleaned both sides twice. I’m selling this immediately and just going to order one of the Ludwig remasters that RTI pressed a few years ago. I already have most of the remasters in my collection, but I’ve never been this disappointed. I just wanted to check if these new Dead Oceans 2022 reissues were any good, but I don’t think I’ll be trying again. The vinyl doesn’t have any scuff marks or physical damage, but the records are covered in that “gloss ghosting”. I don’t know what else to call it, it’s like permanent holographic brush strokes that you can only see when held up to the light. Does anyone know what I’m talking about? 😅
Audio quality is fantastic, and as another reviewer mentioned, my version feels like it's pressed on 180g vinyl. There's a bit of inner groove noise on the softer closing tracks, such as 'you will...', but that's my only minor gripe.
Overall, it sounds and looks fantastic, I'm really into the quality of the pressing and material. There's a bit of crackle in certain parts that I don't believe should be present on my copy, but maybe that could be fixed with a good clean.
It's tough to assess the quality of a vinyl press with albums like this that have a lo-fi feel, but this one does the album proud. I didn't notice any unwanted crackles or pops, and the mastering seems just as good as I remember the CD being. It's an awesome album, and even though I bought it on a whim while out shopping for books with my girlfriend, I don't regret the purchase at all.
Some crackles in the quiet parts of LP1, even with a cleaning. The A1 track sets the stage for some great dynamic contrast.
