Conor's gloomiest and most disheartening tracks since Ruminations, though these lack the punch and lyrical brilliance of his earlier work. They come across more as loose, improvisational pieces rather than the polished songs we're accustomed to. While it's a new direction for a Bright Eyes album, the band seems to struggle when stepping too far away from their usual style.
I opted for this edition as it was around 10€ more affordable than the usual black variant (though still not exactly budget-friendly). Both my vinyl records have a slight warp (likely from the super tight plastic wrapping), but it doesn't impact the sound at all. They're quiet and full of energy, with no crackling. The packaging is quite decent and the splattered color looks cool, but it does make the etching on side D pretty hard to see.
The second album isn't flawlessly flat, but it spins just fine and sounds fantastic. I'm really digging the red and orange splatter, it's one of a kind in my vinyl collection!
