Product Description

Public Enemy's "It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back," released on June 28, 1988, under Def Jam Recordings, is a groundbreaking work that solidified their status as pioneers of East Coast hip hop and hardcore hip hop. This album is a powerful testament to the social and political climate of the late 1980s, with its raw, unapologetic lyrics and innovative production. Clocking in at 57 minutes, the album features 15 tracks that seamlessly blend hard-hitting beats with thought-provoking commentary.

From the opening track "Countdown To Armageddon" to the rebellious anthem "Rebel Without A Pause," Public Enemy delivers a relentless critique of societal issues, using their music as a platform for activism and awareness. Tracks like "Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos" and "Prophets Of Rage" showcase the group's ability to craft anthems that resonate deeply with listeners, while "Louder Than A Bomb" and "Bring The Noise" highlight their knack for high-energy, adrenaline-fueled beats.

The album's production, handled by the Bomb Squad, is a defining feature, characterized by its dense, layered soundscapes and aggressive sampling techniques. This approach not only set a new standard for hip hop production but also amplified the impact of Public Enemy's messages.

"It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back" is not just an album; it's a cultural artifact that captures the spirit of a generation. Its influence can be heard in the work of countless artists who followed in Public Enemy's footsteps, making it an essential piece of hip hop history. • Massive, Noiseless, Winner

    5 out of 5 stars

This pressing is massive! They pack in tons of tunes on a single disc and there's zero inner noise- it's a total winner

  • Rare 2000 Pressing Stickers

    5 out of 5 stars
    wipfpa-lep22 November 2025United States🇺🇸

This got pressed in the year 2000 and wasn't made in large amounts. Each of these versions has a sticker on them showing what pressing number it is.

  • Epic but Warped Classic

    3 out of 5 stars
    icmf_dd19 November 2025United States🇺🇸

Quite in line with the original pressings I've encountered before, which have always seemed a tad soft and squashed. A truly epic recording, even if it's not exactly an audiophile experience. My copy had a significant warp that I fixed with my Vinyl Flat.

  • Terminator X Shines

    5 out of 5 stars
    GuwLeymib5 November 2025United States🇺🇸

This is a noise-free, flat pressing that truly captures the original LP, spread across two genuine 180g records. The sound is incredibly clean and detailed, though not overly bright, allowing you to hear nuances that streams miss. Vocals are clear and centered, and while the cut is quieter, turning it up reveals its full dynamic range and deep bass (if your system can handle it). The sleeve and inner prints are top-notch, though not poly-lined. Terminator X absolutely shines here—genius work! Highly, highly recommended.

  • Overlooked Hip-Hop Masterpiece

    4 out of 5 stars
    PWDLM10 August 2025United States🇺🇸

Black Steel ..." is arguably one of the most overlooked masterpieces in Hip-Hop's storytelling genre. Terminator X's sampling skills on this album are off the charts, especially with that Beastie Boys snippet on "Party For Your Right To Fight". That Pac-Man sound effect is timeless, scattered throughout the LP just like the politically charged, yet realistic lyrics. And get this, it was released way before the Patriot Act! I wouldn't have minded if they skipped the live bits, as I'm not usually a fan of live albums, but that's a minor complaint when you've got a track like "...Channel Zero" to bang your head to! -DJ C.V.R.9th/Aug.2K25
