Product Description

Dive into the raw energy and rebellious spirit of Green Day's 1995 album, "Insomniac." This punk and pop punk masterpiece is a high-octane journey through 13 tracks that clock in at just over 32 minutes, delivering a powerful punch of angst, wit, and unapologetic attitude. Released under Reprise, "Insomniac" is a testament to Green Day's ability to craft infectious melodies and driving rhythms that capture the essence of youthful disillusionment and defiance.

From the opening riff of "Armatage Shanks" to the closing notes of "Walking Contradiction," the album is a whirlwind of raw emotion and sharp lyricism. Tracks like "Geek Stink Breath" and "Brain Stew" showcase the band's knack for blending punk's raw energy with pop's catchy hooks, while songs like "No Pride" and "Jaded" delve into themes of self-reflection and societal critique. The album's brevity only serves to amplify its impact, making every second count.

"Insomniac" is a bold statement from Green Day, solidifying their place in the punk rock pantheon. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer to their music, this album is a thrilling ride through the highs and lows of youth, captured in a way that only Green Day can.

This is a 2023 Reissue released as a LP.

  • Solid Purchase, Great Sound Quality

    5 out of 5 stars
    In_Wjovaiwekwu30 December 2025United States🇺🇸

In general, this is a solid purchase with a great pressing, though there are a couple of things to note. The records themselves are completely silent, though the first LP of the album was a bit warped, but it doesn't impact playback. The audio is clear and punchy with a lot of dynamism, and Billy Joe's guitar has a fantastic crunch. That said, as others have pointed out with different pressings, the sound can sometimes be a bit thin or shrill and could use a bit more bass, but that's likely just because Green Day is a band that focuses more on the mid and treble ranges. The hologram cover is pretty cool, though a gatefold would've been a nice touch, as would 180g vinyl. Again, the discs sound amazing, but I can't recall another special edition anniversary reissue on such thin, lightweight vinyl (I'd guess these are 140g at best). All things considered, though, it's a worthwhile set to own.

The music on this album is fantastic. I'm also a big fan of the shiny-boy artwork. Really happy I grabbed it for the regular price. 🙌🏻

  • Vinyl vs CD: Green Day's Insomniac

    2 out of 5 stars
    Guzton_Dizdbejw19 November 2025United States🇺🇸

I've just wrapped up an in-depth comparison with the https://www.discogs.com/release/3971383-Green-Day-Insomniac (2017 reissue, matrix runouts variant 2) as well as the original Canadian CD from 1995. Here's my take:The surface is pretty quiet, except for the gap between the first four tracks on side A where you can catch a weird rubbing noise with each spin. The record is flat, but side A is a tad off center, though it's no big deal. All the tracks are at the same volume, except for track B1 which is oddly quieter in dB?!? Let's just say that's not a great start to this side. The deadwax is much narrower than the European version, though. This version has a terrible EQ: there's no clarity or shine at all, which makes the cymbals lose their punch. The low frequencies have been boosted but we lose the bass transients, making it hard to hear the individual notes. Switching to the CD, it's like I'm taking out my ear plugs during vinyl playback. In a direct comparison, I felt like the vinyl version sounded like an old AM radio lol. I used to blindly buy Mr. Bellman's masterings but now I must admit to being confused and hugely disappointed. The European version is much more true to the CD (Mr. Ludwig did a great job back then) so it's more balanced, grungy and lively. It's also definitely more dynamic. I won't risk getting the 25th anniversary version to compare but if you like your Green Day with a punk attitude and kicking ass and you absolutely want to own a version on vinyl, I highly recommend the European version. • Canadian CD Outshines US Vinyl

    3 out of 5 stars
    Vixfuv_Sollsexh4 November 2025United States🇺🇸

After thoroughly comparing the https://www.discogs.com/release/9433085-Green-Day-Insomniac US 2009 edition and the original 1995 Canadian CD, here's my take: The surface noise is non-existent, and the record is perfectly flat and centered. The deadwax area is significantly broader than the US version by Mr. Bellman, and the mastering volume is slightly lower as well. The sound closely resembles the CD, albeit a tad darker and with slightly less definition on the cymbals; these differences are likely due to the varying playback systems. The midrange is richly detailed, and the overall sound is vibrant and captivating. It matches the original CD's dynamism. I purchased the US version based on confirmation bias and regret it, as the copy I received is muffled, dull, lifeless, veiled, thick, and over-compressed. Truly disappointing. I won't chance it with the 25th-anniversary version for comparison. If you seek the album's "original" sound (mastered by Mr. Ludwig), prefer your Green Day with a punk edge, and want to own it on vinyl, I strongly recommend this European version. Equipment used: RP6/AT33PTG - StagelineS - NaitXS - CD5i - Chorus 726.
