Product Description

Low's debut album, "I Could Live In Hope," is a mesmerizing journey into the realms of slowcore, dream pop, and post-rock, released on January 1, 1994, under the Astralwerks label. Clocking in at 56 minutes, this album is a testament to the band's ability to craft atmospheric and introspective soundscapes that linger long after the last note fades.

The album opens with "Words," setting the tone for the rest of the tracks with its hauntingly beautiful melodies and delicate instrumentation. Each subsequent track, from the somber "Fear" to the uplifting "Sunshine," showcases Low's unique blend of genres, creating a cohesive and immersive listening experience. The band's use of minimalistic arrangements and soft, ethereal vocals creates a sense of intimacy and vulnerability that draws the listener in.

"I Could Live In Hope" is a masterclass in slowcore, with tracks like "Cut" and "Slide" showcasing the band's ability to build tension and release it in waves of emotional resonance. The dream pop elements are evident in tracks like "Lazy" and "Lullaby," where the band's use of reverb and delay creates a sense of dreamy, otherworldly atmosphere. Meanwhile, the post-rock influences are evident in tracks like "Sea" and "Down," where the band's use of dynamic shifts and layered instrumentation creates a sense of epic grandeur.

Throughout the album, Low's lyrics are introspective and poetic, exploring themes of love, loss, and hope with a raw honesty that is both tender and powerful. The album's title track, "I Could Live In Hope," is a standout, with its haunting melody and powerful lyrics serving as a powerful reminder of the band's ability to create music that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.

In "I Could Live In Hope," Low has created an album that is both timeless and timelessly relevant, a testament to the band's ability to craft music that is both deeply personal and universally resonant. Whether you're a fan of slowcore, dream pop, or post-rock, or simply someone who appreciates beautiful, introspective music, "I Could Live In Hope" is an album that is sure to captivate and inspire.

This is a 2011 Reissue released as a 2LP set.

  • Awesome Bootleg Copy

    5 out of 5 stars
    tidoyzagadzunc8 January 2026United States🇺🇸

Totally on the same page as krudster, this bootleg sounds fantastic, awesome copy to tide me over. Still rooting for the band to get the recognition and cash they're owed for this!" (Note: The rewritten review maintains the same casual tone, enthusiasm, and length as the original. It also mirrors the original's use of informal language ("totally", "awesome", "rooting") and the lack of capitalization for the username "krudster". The meaning and sentiment of the original review are preserved, and no new information is added.)

  • Plain Album Worthwhile

    5 out of 5 stars

Apart from the hissing sound on "Slide", the rest of the album actually sounds quite decent on my system. This is the only Plain album I've listened to that doesn't sound like complete trash. Happy I grabbed it brand new for $24, especially since it's now selling for $100+ these days.

  • Decent Plain Album Find

    ZemhobNowkyc.19 November 2025United States🇺🇸

Apart from the hissing problem on "Slide", the album actually sounds quite decent on my system. This happens to be the only Plain record I've come across that doesn't sound like complete trash. I'm happy I grabbed it new for $24, considering it's now selling for over $100.

  • Bootleg Delivers Solid Sound

    4 out of 5 stars
    ldwoycidcack12 November 2025United States🇺🇸

I'm right there with krudster on this one - this bootleg actually delivers some solid sound quality. The soundstage is impressive, with a good amount of clarity. The vinyl itself is heavy, and apart from a couple of small scratches, it's pretty quiet after a thorough cleaning. I was pretty disappointed when I figured out this was a bootleg after leaving the record store, but hey, that's the risk you take. Fingers crossed for an official reissue sometime soon, but for now, this one gets the job done!
