Out came this album right in the middle of thrash metal's dark ages. Metallica was still riding high from their Black Album's massive MTV exposure. Every other band was trying to copy that success, going for more mainstream, simpler songs. Meanwhile, death metal was on the rise. Slayer didn't just avoid the radio-friendly trend, they went all out with even more intense lyrics, and it worked! This album isn't flawless, a few tracks are weaker than the rest, but overall, it deserves 5 stars for not giving in to the times. Tracks like Killing Fields, Sex Murder Art, Serenity in Murder, 213, and Mind Control are all classic Slayer tunes that could fit right in with their earlier stuff. Paul Bostaph kills it on the drums, giving it his all. He does change the band's sound compared to Dave Lombardo, but it's not a bad thing, just different.
I'm not seeing what makes this one a 'limited edition'. It appears to be just a censored slipcase version to me.
Amazing pressing. Slayer has never sounded this incredible before.
This version truly shines (I didn't mind the homemade feel of the first one, but for those after a RM of this album, this one's a real treat), the drums are just a smidge quieter in the mix and that "odd" production touch is pretty much vanished. Plus, it's way more affordable than that newer remastered LP my buddy's got from '14, if that's your kinda thing like it is for us regular folks.
Amazing press of an amazing album. Guilty fav, hits HARD
