This cassette features an awesome collection of songs and sounds pretty good too. The audio quality is surprisingly better than what you might anticipate for a 2017 release. It has fairly low hiss and solid clarity, but there's some evident side A/B bleed on my copy (I checked with other tapes, so it's not my player).
I must admit, I was taken aback to find this whole album crammed onto just one disc, particularly when you consider that Devotion and Teen Dream, both shorter than this one and easily fitting on a single LP, were spread across two discs. While this release does have the usual issues you'd expect from a lengthy album on one disc, it's not as bad as I feared and is quite enjoyable to listen to if you crank up the volume. It's quite low in volume and noisier with less dynamic range than my other Beach House records, but it's not a total train wreck. I'm also a big fan of the material used for the cover - it has a great feel to it, although it doesn't make for a fantastic inner sleeve, so definitly grab an inner protector sleeve for this one.
This record's pressing is quite disappointing. The music's compressed (57 mins squeezed onto one LP) and low in volume, so any surface noise is more noticeable. My copy has plenty of it—clicks, pops, you name it. I've not usually found Beach House's records to be top-notch in terms of pressing quality, especially the newer ones.
This ain't no "web sub," so don't go takin' it down. I got this in my hands a whole month before it even came out, 'cause they was sellin' 'em at their live gigs. Check out the second pic, that's my proof.
Received my copy around a month back. It's certainly quieter than many others, and my version doesn't have any of the surface noise/pops that others seem to be experiencing. Just lucky, I guess?
