Fans of yankee foxtrot will adore this. Unexpected alternative versions.
Not owning either of the deluxe boxsets or any additional material for this album, just the original and the 2022 remaster, I find this to be a really neat compilation of alternate and live versions. I think it might not hold up too well on its own without the listener having a strong bond with the main album. However, I genuinely enjoyed experiencing this content in a fresh setting. One particular aspect that enhanced my enjoyment was listening to an interview with Tweedy on NPR a few months back about performing Reservations live and how the audience would honor that couple of minutes of drone-y ambience after the main part of the song by refraining from clapping or cheering. The closing track on this collection features one of those moments, and it's incredibly powerful in this context. On the technical front, the pressing is excellent, and all the songs are presented in a way that never feels abrupt or haphazardly put together. Some tracks you wouldn't even realize are live until the faint applause kicks in after they end. I believe this is a valuable addition for anyone with a deep-seated connection to this record.
This pressing is spotless and hushed. Not a single problem and it's a fantastic take on the album.
I recently grabbed a cd of Sky Blue Sky for a couple bucks at a second-hand store. I'd heard about Wilco and always wanted to check them out, but this was my first time diving in. I'm really digging it! It's a gorgeous album, with a chill, laid-back vibe that also packs some amazing guitar solos, all backed by an incredible rhythm section. I went in not knowing what to expect but eager to explore more of their music. The sound quality is great. It's definitely different from Sky, but I enjoyed it just as much. I haven't heard the standard version of this album. Is there a reason to? Or is this copy just as good, maybe even better?
It's been a couple of weeks since I got this LP from RSD, and I finally had the chance to clean it up and play it. What a blast! From the second the needle hits side 1, I was blown away. This is exactly what RSD releases should be. The tunes are incredible, the mastering is top-notch, and the pressing quality is impeccable. It's got everything going for it. Now I get why it's going for triple the price. If you're thinking about it, grab it now before the price goes up... because it definitely will.
