I thoroughly disliked this album. To be fair, I was a big fan of Night & Day, Body & Soul, and Big World, so I wasn't expecting this sort of music when I purchased it upon release. Just like most modern classical pieces, I found it irritating, lacking melody, and impossible to listen to. It made me lose interest in Jackson's work from that point onward. I got rid of it right away.
Joe Jackson's unique perspective shines through here. It's a genuinely enjoyable listen and feels quite authentic as a whole. I'm happy to have this in my collection. The pressing is solid with a clear sound.
This album truly shines upon repeated plays, and it's likely best experienced on CD due to the many soft segments. The solo piano Nocturne is an absolute gem, featuring gorgeous tunes, while Solitude & Symphony in One Movement stand out as the finest orchestral pieces. And I'm a huge fan of the clever winks to the Star Trek theme in the latter track!
Truly a fantastic album!Incredible range of sound.I really enjoy that record a lot.
