This album has a pleasant sound. Starting from track A2, every song is fantastic, filled with jazz and diverse influences. Track A1 begins nicely with a lovely mellotron/organ, but for me, it's spoiled when that squiggly, low-quality organ 'melody/solo' kicks in and keeps going. If it's Tom Coster, it's the complete opposite of his amazing piano work on the last track (Welcome) on Side 2.
This Santana record is often overlooked, yet it boasts a spiritual vibe, outstanding musicianship, and remarkably creative tracks.
Being somewhat of a newcomer to Speakers Corner's releases, I've recently bought four of their records to get a feel for their quality, as I've come across a variety of opinions regarding their products. The copy of Santana's "Welcome" I got was flat and had minimal static, housed in a poly lined inner sleeve. Upon playing it, I noticed it was quiet and devoid of any distracting pops or clicks. It sounds fantastic alongside my original copy, but I can't help pondering if it might sound even better if it was recorded at 45RPM and spread across two LPs.
Audio is absolutely gorgeous, vast wide sound field with amazing depth, Excellent dynamic range, as good as, if not a tad better than my pristine 1st UK pressing
Much like other Santana albums, I think this one's quite overrated. I'm not sure I'd ever hit play on it again.
