Product description

Slayer's 'The Repentless Killogy' is a monumental release that showcases the band's unrelenting ferocity and unwavering dedication to their craft. This thrilling package combines a short narrative film, directed by BJ McDonnell, with the band's entire live performance filmed at the Los Angeles Forum on August 5, 2017. The film weaves together three brutal music videos - 'You Against You', 'Repentless', and 'Pride In Prejudice' - to tell a story of revenge, murder, bloodshed, and retribution, all set to the band's signature thrash metal sound.

The live performance, directed by Wayne Isham, features Slayer delivering a blistering setlist that includes fan favourites such as 'South of Heaven', 'Raining Blood', and 'Angel of Death'. With a striking stage production and the band's trademark intensity, this live show is a must-see for any metal enthusiast.

The album itself, released on November 8, 2019, via Nuclear Blast, boasts a tracklist that spans the band's discography, with live renditions of 'Delusions of Saviour', 'The Antichrist', 'Disciple', and many more. Clocking in at 1 hour and 31 minutes, 'The Repentless Killogy' is a testament to Slayer's enduring legacy and their ability to craft music that is both uncompromising and unmissable.

With its unique blend of music and film, 'The Repentless Killogy' is an essential addition to any metal collection, offering a glimpse into the band's creative vision and their unwavering commitment to their art. Slayer's 'The Repentless Killogy' is a thrilling release that will leave you breathless and eager for more.

These aren't 180g vinyl, but they sure do sound great.

  • Slayer's Live Essentials

Awesome Live record featuring Slayer's top tracks from over the years, solid press though the vocal mix ain't the greatest

  • Worst Recording Ever

This is the poorest recording I've ever heard, hands down, across all artists, genres, and formats.

  • Slayer's Disappointing Musical Finale

    2 out of 5 stars
    giit_weirlApril 14, 2024United States🇺🇸

This record is a visual treat, but a musical disaster. The splatter vinyl is indeed a sight to behold, but the actual content is a disappointing finale to Slayer's career. Every version of this release suffers from poor recording and mixing, making the DVD, digital, and vinyl versions equally unsatisfactory. It's as if the microphones were plugged in but left in their cases backstage, instead of being placed on the drums or amps to capture the instruments properly. It feels like the sound engineer had a nightmare where several microphones or inputs failed during the show, and this is the salvaged result. The snare and rack tom microphones seem to have been absent, with only some overheads and floor tom microphones picking up the sound. These floor toms are quite prominent, but they lack definition, as if they were precious microphones wrapped in cotton wool. The main fills sound distant, like biscuit tins, culminating in a noise akin to a giant wearing moccasins on a trampoline. The guitars also sound like they were recorded with overly precious microphones, kept safe from the raw sounds of the amps. The tone is poorly defined and fits more of a dingy, down-on-its-luck club with an angry sound engineer who just found out their partner was cheating on them with a band member. As expected with Slayer, the bass is barely noticeable, occasionally making an appearance here and there. The vocals are the only aspect that has been recorded well enough. A live thrash performance without a snare is hard to comprehend, and it's baffling that this was presented as the final chapter of Slayer's recorded output without any overdubs or a redo. Given that Slayer managed a good live recording on "Decade of Aggression" almost 30 years prior, and even "Live Undead" from their early days, it's disappointing that they didn't present their final chapter in a better way. As a Slayer fan of over 30 years who has bought many of their albums multiple times, from tapes as a teen to CDs in my young adulthood and now collecting vinyl in middle age, it's disheartening that my loyalty and that of others is repaid with such disappointment. The only thing that could make it worse is if a Winger vinyl was mistakenly placed in the sleeve of a first press of "Reign in Blood"! In conclusion, this release is for completists only. It looks good, but no matter what record player, amp, or speakers you use, it will sound worse than most bootlegs. Leave it in the wrap and let your grandkids sell it for a fortune to some unsuspecting enthusiast in the 2070s, but anything beyond admiring the splatter vinyl is a waste of your time. I've done the hard work, so you don't have to! You can thank me later, but I guess you've already heard it and share the empty feeling that you've just sat through Slayer's "Killogy." The two stars are for the look of the vinyl.

About Slayer

Slayer, the iconic American thrash metal band hailing from Huntington Park, California, was forged in 1981 by the formidable lineup of bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, and drummer Dave Lombardo. Renowned for their blistering speed and unrelenting aggression, Slayer quickly rose to prominence as one of the "big four" bands of thrash metal, standing shoulder to shoulder with Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Their music, a potent blend of thrash, speed, and heavy metal influences, has left an indelible mark on the genre. Over the years, Slayer's lineup has evolved, with current members including Araya, King, drummer Paul Bostaph, and guitarist Gary Holt, who joined permanently after Hanneman's passing in 2013. With a discography that spans decades and a live performance that is nothing short of intense, Slayer continues to be a powerhouse in the metal world, captivating fans with their raw energy and uncompromising sound.
