Don't let the initial concerns deter you. I was initially disappointed by the scuffs and minor scratches on this OneStep upon arrival (there's a hint of permanent surface noise even after cleaning...similar to what happened with my Dr. Dre - the Chronic DSS). The hassle of returning these and waiting for a replacement in Canada seemed too much, so I chose to let it go and just embrace it. The sound quality of this Nat King Cole OneStep is outstanding and absolutely lives up to the praise given to the Steve Hoffman/Kevin Gray Analogue Productions Nat King Cole Series. This will be a treasured addition to my family's collection, enjoyed year after year. The immersion into this beautiful Christmas music was more profound than ever, making the extra cost worthwhile. The clarity of the backup vocals and orchestrations is truly remarkable, and Nat's voice, free from excessive reverb, is initially surprising with its intimacy and immediacy. The same 'he's in the room right over there' quality to Nat's vocals that the Analogue Productions series had. Given the festive nature of the songs and the added intimacy of the performances with this superb mastering, I felt a strong nostalgic Christmas vibe....it was like a warm hug and a hot cocoa on my first listen. Highly recommended!
Nat King Cole's "The Christmas Song" has forever held a special place in my heart as one of my most treasured Christmas albums. I can vividly recall the first time I heard the tracks as a young child, and how his voice seemed to wrap around me like a warm, comforting blanket, shielding my 11-year-old self from the world's worries. It was as if his voice had the power to dissolve any adolescent concerns I had, allowing me to lose myself in its enchanting sound. Decades later, that same magical feeling came rushing back with an intensity I hadn't anticipated when I first played this new One-Step pressing. The clarity, spaciousness, and depth of Nat's voice on this record are unparalleled. It's as though his vocal performance has its own dedicated stage, completely immersing you in its rich tones, regardless of pitch, timbre, or volume. Whether he's delivering a soft, tender croon or a powerful, passionate belt, his voice is utterly captivating (in the best way possible). What I admire most about this mastering is how Nat and his heavenly voice take center stage, and Chris Bellman (who truly outdoes himself here) gives them the prominence they rightfully deserve. But don't think the rest of the music is overlooked. The exquisite orchestral arrangements sound better than ever, perfectly complementing Nat's extraordinary vocal performance. There's a wealth of instrumental details to savor here, even when you're completely mesmerized by his voice. Plus, the super-quiet, flawlessly flat RTI pressing ensures a steady, noise-free background, keeping any distracting surface noise at bay. As for the packaging, it's the high-quality we've come to expect from One-Step boxes, although I still wish they'd do away with the unnecessary cover sleeve. It's just one more thing to deal with before I can start enjoying the music. I might be in the minority here, but I'd love to see One-Steps ditch these covers altogether. Maybe then the label could even lower the price a tad? Just a thought. That minor gripe aside, this disc exceeded all my expectations when I placed my order last month. I'm more than happy to pay premium prices for One-Step releases, as long as they deliver the goods in a competitive market filled with cheaper options. In my ears and heart, this one does just that, and now I have the ultimate version of this album to cherish for years to come.
Being a huge fan of Holiday albums, I didn't hesitate to grab this one. The sound quality is stunning, there's not a hint of noise, and the packaging is absolutely gorgeous. It's a definite must-have for the festive season. I'd strongly suggest giving it a listen.
This sounds absolutely amazing! I need to type 10 more words here
The quality is poor, the left channel is no good and it's really noisy.
