Far from the best press, truly let down by DM's represses. The pressing quality and the covers are both subpar. That said, this is a classic DM album and a must-have for any DM fan.
Fantastic reissue. The sound is crystal clear, with no pops or hissing at all. The shiny gatefold cover & inner sleeve are great extras too. It's tough to nail these intricate '90s productions on vinyl, but Sony Legacy nailed it this time.
The sound quality of my copy is absolutely flawless. There are no crackles or any other distractive noises. The bass is incredibly deep, and the detail level is outstanding.
This record sounds fantastic on my fairly basic setup. The dynamics are impressive, with highs, mids, and bass all sounding just right β sharp, clear, and punchy. It could maybe be a tad more open and spacious, but that's a small gripe. No compression issues here, and I'm not picking up any sibilance on track A4 like some mentioned. If it's there, you'd really have to hunt for it; otherwise, it's just the way Dave and Martin intended in the mix and master. No inner groove distortion problems either, and the volume level seems spot on. I've played this a bunch and cleaned it up, but there's still a hint of surface noise with a few light ticks. Nothing that detracts from cranking it up and having a blast. This is the follow-up to the incredible "Violator" album, and I think they absolutely nailed it with this one. I caught their live shows twice during this tour, and they were phenomenal.
This album has always sounded a bit muffled to me, and sadly, the SACD/DVD-V version isn't any better. There are a few decent tracks on SOFAD, but honestly, the sound quality is just not something I can enjoy. Plus, for me, SOFAD symbolizes some issues within the band, so I've never been a huge fan of it.
