Product description

After a 22-year hiatus, Slowdive returns with their self-titled fourth studio album, a masterful blend of shoegaze, dream pop, and slowcore that captivates from start to finish. Released on May 5, 2017, via Dead Oceans, this album marks the band's first studio effort since 1995's "Pygmalion" and reunites the original lineup, including drummer Simon Scott, who last appeared on their 1993 album "Souvlaki."

"Slowdive" opens with the ethereal "Slomo," setting the tone for the album's dreamy and introspective journey. The record features eight meticulously crafted tracks, each showcasing Slowdive's signature sound—layered guitars, atmospheric vocals, and a sense of melancholic beauty. Standout tracks like "Star Roving," "Sugar for the Pill," and "Everyone Knows" highlight the band's ability to create immersive soundscapes that resonate long after the music fades.

The album received critical acclaim, with Pitchfork awarding it "Best New Music" and praising the band's ability to deliver a compelling and cohesive listening experience. "Slowdive" was also ranked #34 in the best albums of 2017, solidifying the band's return to the forefront of the dream pop and shoegaze genres.

Featuring the talents of Neil Halstead on vocals, guitar, and keyboards, Rachel Goswell on vocals, Christian Savill on guitar, Nick Chaplin on bass, and Simon Scott on drums and electronics, "Slowdive" is a testament to the band's enduring creativity and musical prowess. The album's production, overseen by Neil Halstead, ensures that each track is a sonic journey in its own right, making "Slowdive" an essential addition to any music lover's collection.

This is a 2024 Reissue released as a LP.

  • Bonati Pressing: Impressive Sound, Unique Style

    5 out of 5 stars
    Odobmu0January 3, 2026United States🇺🇸

Bonati Pressing - the sound quality is fantastic, truly impressive. Initially, the sleeve's design caught my attention, and for a moment I thought, 'could this be a bootleg?' The font on the front and back gave me that impression, but then I understood it's intentional and fits the overall style.

  • Decent Pressing, Recommended

    4 out of 5 stars
    sumywonkDecember 23, 2025United States🇺🇸

Solid pressing here. If you're hoping for Souvlaki-like mastering, this might not hit the mark. But the mix and master is pretty decent, considering the price. I'd definitely give this a recommendation. Gear used: TT: Fisher MT-6225, Amp: Harman/Kardon hk495i, Cart: AT-VM95ml, Speakers: Tannoy C-8

  • Impressive Comeback Album

    4 out of 5 stars
    gehthdoerrDecember 2, 2025United States🇺🇸

To be honest, it's fantastic for what it is, even better than I thought it would be. From what I've seen, music with this much dynamic range, textures, layers, highs, lows, you know, like this, hasn't usually done all that great on this format. You can tell some of that dynamic range is lost, of course it's never gonna sound as rich and full as it's meant to, but it actually turns out to be pretty impressive! No crazy inner groove distortion, which is a big issue with releases like this. No real noise or pops. It's soft and warm, never harsh on the ears, crank up the quiet parts, “Sugar For The Pill” sounds particularly beautiful, especially for being the last song on side A. People don't talk about it enough, but this comeback was so impressive for the band! I mean, how often do you see bands release an album after 22 years and deliver like this? Great stuff, at this price, a must-have for the genre.

  • Disappointing Pressing with Noise

Really let down by this pressing. There's clicks and pops all over, especially on the final song.

  • Vinyl Sounds Amazing

    5 out of 5 stars
    totig_rizhel1609October 21, 2025United States🇺🇸

Right out of the gate, I had to give this vinyl a quick scrub as it was quite dirty, but wow, does it sound amazing! I somehow missed Slowdive the first time around and can't fathom why they were so unfairly bashed by the critics if this album's any indication. It's an absolute masterpiece, start to finish.

About Slowdive

Slowdive, hailing from Reading, Berkshire, are an iconic English rock band that emerged in 1989, blending psychedelic and dream pop with shoegaze and ambient electronica to create their signature sound. Led by primary songwriter Neil Halstead, the band includes Rachel Goswell, Christian Savill on guitars, Nick Chaplin on bass, and Simon Scott. Their music, often described as a heady brew of atmospheric layers, has captivated audiences for over three decades. Slowdive's discography includes the classic album "Pygmalion," released 30 years ago, and their self-titled album, which marked their return to the studio after a 20-year hiatus. The band's live performances are equally renowned, with recent tours featuring special guests like Drab Majesty.
