My vinyl copy is super quiet! There's just a few tiny pops on the A side, but you'd barely notice them unless you're really listening close.
Ever since stumbling upon a worn-out tape version in my first university house way back in '92, I'd been yearning to get this album again. I played that tape to bits and eventually upgraded to a CD. I'd always been skeptical about past re-releases, but I came across a copy at Probe Records in Liverpool, UK... and it's brilliant so far! No disturbances, no background noise, just a deep, rich sound with fantastic bass. It's an amazing album! I'd highly recommend it.
Incredible audio quality! The sound is flat, dynamic, and has virtually no surface noise. It's clearly pressed at Pallas Germany, and it shows. This could be the ultimate reference sound material. Grab it! Played on all Cambridge Audio gear: Alva TT V2, Alva MC cart, Duo Pre, Evo 150, and 1994 Klipsch KG 5.2 Cabs.
The newly released Deluxe Reissued Version of Selected Ambient Works II is an absolutely breathtaking package - 4xLP 180g bio vinyl, a heavy-duty outer plastic album holder that appears to be 7-8 mil thick, a poster, stickers … you name it. What irks me is that while the 180g reissue of this album is fantastic and sounds incredible, in my humble opinion, this is the superior collection, and deserves the same top-notch deluxe treatment. I wish Warp had merged the two into a single 8xLP box set - especially with all of the extra $$$ they could have charged for such a masterpiece (and one they could be almost certain would be snatched up by SOOO MANY PEOPLE with both of the original versions, or, at least they could have released Deluxe versions of both compilations at the same time. But no use crying over spilled milk now. Considering how utterly overshadowed the 1st collection is, sitting on my record shelves next to the really thick and hefty 2nd collection, I genuinely hope that Warp gives this collection the same deluxe treatment. And sooner rather than later. Side by side, this record looks pathetic and way too thin. Of course there are a lot of other Warp albums that haven’t gotten a reissue yet, but I absolutely think said project is absolutely essential.
I'm not getting what everyone's talking about, my version sounds good with no weird crackling or hissing.
