Product description

Immerse yourself in the rich, romantic compositions of Max von Schillings with this captivating album, released in August 1991 under the Marco-Polo label. This collection showcases Schillings' remarkable versatility as both a composer and conductor, offering a journey through his evocative works performed by the Slovak State Philharmonic Orchestra, Košice, with Alfred Walter on violin and Ernö Rózsa conducting.

The album opens with Schillings' Violin Concerto, Op. 25, a three-movement piece that highlights the technical prowess and expressive depth of the violin. The first movement, "Allegro energico," sets a lively and dynamic tone, while the second movement, "Andante con espressione," offers a more introspective and lyrical interlude. The concerto concludes with the spirited "Allegro con brio," bringing the piece to a thrilling close.

Following the concerto, the album presents "Moloch: Das Erntefest," a dramatic and powerful orchestral work that showcases Schillings' ability to create vivid musical narratives. The symphonic prologue to "King Oedipus by Sophocles, Op. 11," rounds out the collection, demonstrating Schillings' skill in composing music that complements and enhances the dramatic tension of classical theater.

With a total runtime of 1 hour and 3 minutes, this album is a testament to Schillings' enduring legacy as a composer and conductor. Whether you're a seasoned classical music enthusiast or a newcomer to the genre, this album offers a compelling introduction to the works of Max von Schillings and the rich, romantic traditions of late 19th and early 20th-century music.
