Product description

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Max von Schillings' "Mona Lisa, Op. 1," a remarkable opera that stands as a significant departure from the Wagnerian tradition. This album, recorded in 1953 by the Berlin Opera Orchestra under the direction of Robert Heger, offers a unique blend of drama and musical innovation that has been praised for its realism and emotional depth.

Comprising two acts and a series of highlights, the opera unfolds over a duration of 2 hours and 13 minutes, taking you through a rich tapestry of musical expressions. The story, inspired by the enigmatic Mona Lisa, explores themes of love, intrigue, and the complexities of human nature. The prelude sets the stage with its evocative melodies, while the subsequent acts delve into the heart of the narrative, featuring arias and ensembles that showcase the operatic prowess of the performers.

Critics have lauded "Mona Lisa" for its ability to capture the essence of real life, offering a mirror to the human experience. The opera's departure from traditional Wagnerian styles makes it a compelling listen for both opera enthusiasts and those new to the genre. The Berlin Opera Orchestra's performance, conducted by Robert Heger, brings Schillings' vision to life with precision and passion, making this recording a timeless addition to any classical music collection.

Released by Walhall Eternity Series in 2014, this album is a testament to Schillings' enduring legacy as a composer. Whether you are a seasoned opera lover or a curious newcomer, "Mona Lisa, Op. 1" promises an engaging and enriching musical journey.
