Last weekend, I decided to give this one a shot after being let down by the poor quality clear vinyl edition. I grabbed it for $60 USD at my neighborhood indie record shop. As a collector, I always use a Hannl RCM to clean each record before putting it in a MoFi sleeve. I was really hoping this pressing would be a significant improvement over the nearly unbearable clear vinyl version. Sadly, it's just a bit better. There are still plenty of ticks, pops, and the occasional burst of no-fill distortion. Plus, both discs showed signs of rough handling, some of which you can even hear. All in all, this pressing is quite disappointing.
I'm really happy with my new pressing. Just got it out of the package, gave it a quick clean with my Vinyl vac, and had a listen. The music is fantastic!
Absolutely amazing sound, with fantastic depth and range! I genuinely appreciate the touch of the recycled (and recyclable ;) ) paperboard sleeve, it aligns perfectly with some of the themes in the music. Seriously… this album gets so much unwarranted criticism. But, like the White Album, Hail To The Thief, or Mellon Collie, the magic of this album lies in its scale and duration. If you're doubtful, give it another listen. Notes is a goldmine.
There's a tiny bit of warp on disc one and some surface noise on the first song, but apart from that, I got a pretty decent pressing. No pops or cracks on my copy. I'm keeping mine safe in round bottom anti-static sleeves inside the cardboard ones for extra protection.
This record sounds incredibly clear for a 140g colored vinyl. I had one skip on side A, but that could just be my turntable's fault and not the record itself. The cover seems to gather dust and pet hair super fast, so if you've got animals, I'd suggest putting it in a different sleeve right away.
